Architectural Disruption

Architectural disruption is a type of disruptive innovation which occurs when the structure of an industry changes, how components are connected, who controls key interfaces, and where value is captured, open leading to incumbents to change their behavior rather than being replaced by new entrants.

Architectural disruptions like open banking can shift control points, but large incumbents often retain the power to shape where that control ultimately lands.
